Here at Pedal People, our workers and many of our customers are feeling the ongoing effects of the pandemic, including significant inflation and cost increases for housing and other expenses in Northampton and Easthampton.
Beginning in 2023, Pedal People chose to follow other organizations in moving to an optional tiered payment system. This system acknowledges the differences in income, wealth, and privilege within our community. By asking customers that earn more money to pay more for our services, we can support our worker-owners in meeting those rising costs, as well as offer subsidized pricing for lower earners.
We also understand that you or your family's whole story is a lot more complex than just your annual income. If you are living with large amounts of student or other debt, you're taking on significant medical or caretaking expenses, or you are part of a group that has been marginalized economically throughout history, consider dropping down a tier. Similarly, if you are living in a house that is already paid off or you benefit from generational wealth, consider moving up a tier.
Please choose a pricing tier that fits your financial situation. To opt-out, choose tier 2. NOTE: If you are a business customer, or a property owner who pays for collection for your tenants, the household income guidelines below may not apply. Please use your judgment in choosing a tier, or contact us and we'd be happy to help you decide.
Tier | Description | Price | |
---|---|---|---|
5 | Household annual income over $250,000, or individual income over $100,000. This rate allows us to pay Pedal People worker-owners a livable wage so that we can continue doing this important work in our community! It also allows us to offer our services to customers who are lower earners, and thus expand our environmental impact. We can offer extra support to those with less financial stability when customers choose this tier. |
